I have a 2/2iC, and I want our relationship to be better. Can you help me?

We highly recommend coaching, not just for each of you individually, but actually the two of you together with a coach.
Yes, we know that sounds a little bit like couples therapy – it sort of is. There is no one else in the organization who understands the pressures that the first and second in command face every single day, and it really can feel like parents vs the kids.
When the two of you can’t present a united front, “divided we fall”, as the saying goes.
- How to handle a customer asking for a refund?
- Whether to make new management hire?
- The way you communicate with each other?
An hour a month for the two of you to check-in with a coach is a tiny investment so that you’re both on the same page when it comes to making the decisions you have to make every day.
Do Nathan and David provide coaching?
We love coaching, and also we aren’t great fits for everyone, even if we had infinite time each day. We’re building out (with some partners) the best way to provide support in this area.

How do you find a 2 or a 2iC?
First, you need to know what you’re looking for.
Not all Seconds are the same. A lot of the foundational personality of each Second will be the same, but every person has their own life experiences, expertise, and education.
And, it really is incredibly important that First in Commands and their Seconds get along well.
That being said, people do touch base with us looking for Seconds, and Seconds touch base with us looking for jobs, or even just projects to invest themselves in.
